What is a fully serviced camping pitch? Everything you need to know

Electricity, water and drainage on your own spot: that's a fully serviced pitch. We explain what to expect and how to verify the facilities before you book.

When booking a campsite you increasingly come across the term 'fully serviced pitch'. It sounds luxurious โ€” and often is โ€” but what exactly does a fully serviced spot include? In this article we explain what to expect, who it suits, and how to check before booking whether the facilities are really there.

What is a fully serviced pitch?

A fully serviced pitch (sometimes called a 'comfort' or 'super' pitch) is a camping spot with three fixed facilities on the pitch itself:

    • Electricity โ€” your own power hookup, usually 6, 10 or 16 amps.
    • Fresh water โ€” your own tap so you can fill your water tank without hauling jerry cans.
    • Grey water drainage โ€” a drain or sewer connection for your waste water (from washing up and showering) directly on the pitch.

Some campsites add extras such as a TV or internet connection, or even a private sanitary unit. The core, however, stays the same: electricity, water and drainage within reach on your own spot.

    Why do campers choose this?

The biggest benefit is convenience. You no longer have to carry full or empty jerry cans back and forth to a central tap, and your grey water tank won't overflow because you can empty it on the spot. That saves time and hassle โ€” especially on a longer stay or with children.

It also gives more freedom: you're less tied to the opening hours or location of central facilities. For anyone who camps comfortably with a caravan or motorhome, a fully serviced pitch is often worth the extra cost.

    What to look out for

'Fully serviced' isn't a protected term, so what's included varies per campsite. Always check:

    • How many amps does the electric hookup supply? With air conditioning or a boiler you'll quickly need more than 6 amps.
    • Is the water connection drinking water? Sometimes it's only non-potable rinse water.
    • How is the grey water drainage arranged? A proper drain is different from an open gully next to the pitch.
    • How far are the connections from your spot? A hookup 'on the pitch' may in practice be just out of reach of your hoses.

Why real photos make the difference

A brochure promises 'fully serviced', but only on the spot do you see how it really is: is the power box nearby, or do you need a twenty-metre extension lead? Is the drain conveniently beside your caravan, or on the wrong side? Those details determine your camping comfort, and they rarely appear in the official description.

That's why Pitchviewer collects real photos of real pitches, uploaded by campers like you. So before booking you can see exactly where the connections are and whether the spot is really 'fully serviced' โ€” not just on paper.

    Finally

A fully serviced pitch can make your holiday a lot more comfortable, provided the facilities match the promise. So ask about the details, and check recent photos of the specific spot where you can. And when you return from a great spot? Share your photos โ€” you'll help the next camper make the right choice.
